Open-ended Informal Consultative Process on Oceans and the Law of the Sea (ICP26).


The twenty-sixth meeting of the United Nations Open-ended Informal Consultative Process on Oceans and the Law of the Sea, in 2026, will, in its deliberations on the Report of the Secretary-General on oceans and the law of the sea, focus its discussions on the theme: Marine ecosystem restoration.

After a final round of negotiations in August 2025 ( INC-5.2 ) concluded without a full agreement due to divisions on key issues like production caps versus waste management , future talks are needed to finalize the treaty.
